This morning in the Irish media, given the polls before the presidential election. It is interesting, that here the candidate, who runs an election campaign based solely on attacking another candidate (even if this is, or had, links with the Irish Republican Army) losing voters. And in Poland? But this is not what I was going to write today. Important information given by the press, radio is announced today the worldwide ranking of universities.

Unfortunately for the Irish university does not look like it best this year. Apart from one university NUI Maynooth all other universities have dropped in ranking, among them also the only technical university ranking classified Dublin Institute of Technology (THIS). Top Irish universities classified last year, Trinity College and University College Dublin (UCD) fallen outside the top hundred (From Trinity 76 space 117, UCD and the 94 in 159 place). W tym momencie University College Cork (UCC) NUI Galway and are outside the first 300. NUI Maynooth just climbed in the rankings and now is on the sites 351-400. Dublin City University (DCU) and fell below the DIT 400 of.

Oh yes, poor performance in the ranking are blamed on higher education cuts. From 2008 budget was reduced by more than 9%, employment reduced by 6%, being adopted 15% more students in first year.
The decline in the ratings can mean, that colleges and universities in Ireland may lose in the future of foreign students, who are considering to study in other countries. They may also lose the investors from home and abroad. Minister of Education and the universities are considering how to prevent such a decline in the ranking and also to restore the prestige of these universities.

For comparison,, classified in the ranking are only two Polish universities, both the locations 301-350: Jagiellonian University and The University of Warsaw. So in Ireland is not as bad as they consider.

Times Higher Education w rankingu ocenia 13 factors, that affect the position of university: survey, university revenue and reputation, level of education, number of students per teacher, number of doctoral degrees awarded, total income of universities and the number of publications in scientific journals.
